I was delighted to be asked to be on the judging panel for the Friends of Apley Woods March Photography competition. Entries are in and I've just selected my top 5. It was a difficult job, there were some lovely shots to choose from, but what I most enjoyed about the judging process was seeing the woods through other people's eyes. Apley Woods is a beautiful area and I'm lucky that its right on my doorstep. You'll often find us walking the dog through the woods or taking shots of my boy playing amongst the trees. I also regularly use the woods as a location for my family portrait sessions as it has so many points of interest for a photographer; wide open spaces, the enchanting enclosed avenue of trees, wonderful carvings dotted around, wildlife, beautiful blooms throughout the year and an interesting historical element. For more information on Apley Woods and the excellent work done by Friends of Apley Woods, you can visit their website here http://www.apleywoods.co.uk/index.php and if you're looking for examples of some family shots taken around the woods please see my gallery http://www.joedwardsphotography.co.uk/p337840591#h593b8d98, most of the outdoorsy shots you see here were taken in the woods. I'm looking forward to the bluebells popping up in a few weeks, they always make for some beautiful photographs!
